The second edition of JONAKI – A NORTH-EAST FILM FESTIVAL organized by the Department of Communication and Journalism, Gauhati University on 28th and 29th February, 2020. 

Around 2000 students and film enthusiast participate in the fest. 

The objectives of the festival are 
  • To promote ethnic language film among the audience, 
  •  Make them conscious about the future of regional films.
  • It is a approach to enrich the film culture to develop a taste of art and culture.

Let’s go through a pictorial journey of the event  "JONAKI: A NORTH-EAST FILM FESTIVAL" 😊





 Madhurima Barua, Secretary, Cultural affairs of Assam;  Bishnu Kamal Borah, Director, Cultural affairs of Assam,   Dr. Dilip Borah, Secretary of University Classes;   Dr. Gautam Das, animation film director of Assam;  Achinta Shankar, renowned film maker of Assam; Nilotpal Borah, a singer with a melodious voice known for his popular song Majuli were presented in the opening ceremony 


                     Dr. Ankuran Dutta, Head of the department addressing and welcoming the audience and also appeal the students to not only watch the film but to learn how to read a film.

All were enjoying the opening film 'Stalking the Storks' directed by Dr. Ankuran Dutta.

Registration  desk was set in front of the hall. Besides, the student of the department went to each and every department and hostel for registration and promotion. They also performed street play, as promotional tool, outside the University campus.

        Queue in front of the entrance gate of the hall. This is not the response of audience for one film but for all.

A glimpse of animation film making workshop. He is Dr. Gautam Das, director of the first animation film of Assam, 'Sarbagunakar  Srimanta Sankar Deva'.

Jefry Daimary, an actor of the film 'Jwlwi' was present in the festival to interact with the audience.

An interactive session with Himjyoti Talukdar, the director of the film 'Calendar' after the screening of the film. The session was quite interesting. Audience tried to solve their quarries by asking question to the director.  Film director Anupam kaushik Borah also took part in it.


 
The whole family of the film 'Bornodi Bhotia' was present on the day along with the director Anupam Kaushik Borah. And he is the youngest star of the film.

 Day two started with the same josh with these much crowd of people.



 Bobby Sharma Baruah, director of the film 'Mishing' interact with the audience after the screening of the film.

Glimpse of Cine Quiz competition conducted by sub-editor of Dainik Assam and renowned quiz master of Assam, Dipankar Koushik.




Sanjib Parashar, director of the film 'Living… The Natural Way', a documentary based on the life of Jadav Payeng, the Forest Man of India, was  also present on the festival to interact with the audience.


Manjul Boruah, director of the film 'Kaneen', the lead actress Jahanara Begam along with other cast and crew of the film were present in festival and interact with the audience.


A short film competition was also organized where 36  participate films were judged by three judges Khanjan kishore Nath, Deep Bhuyan and Bikash Dutta . 'Aharor Duporiya'  by Dhuraba Jyoti Das got the best short film award.


In  Cine Quiz competition Bhupal Sarma and Rubul Kalita won the first prize, Ankurjyoti Sarma and raktim Ranjan Baishya  got the second, and team Deepjyoti Patowary and Dhritiraj Misra got the third prize offered by Himanshu PrashadDas.


 Gauhati University Register Hemanta Kumar Nath was present in the closing ceremony and released   ‘GU Times’ the Department lab journal edited by Parashar  Kalita, a student of the department and the souvenir ‘Pratyasha’, edited by Arshad Ali, a student of the department.

The most talented actors of the closing film 'AAMIS', Aghradeep Boruah and Leema Das were present in the festival and watch the film with the audience and interact with them. Audience become crazy to see both the actors in front of them and asked different types of question.





The closing movie AAMIS was screened at both PD and AT Hall with a houseful of audience. The students of the department were enjoying the movie sitting on the floor. 




Dr. Ankuran Dutta, the Head of the Deparment thanking all the audience, film enthusiasts and film maker for their warm responds towards the event.    Dr. Bharati Bharali, in-charge of the festival  congratulates the students for the success of JONAKI.  Rakes Haloi and Pradeepta Das thanking all the students for their support and said it is team work which make Jonaki success.
